a muggy humid day today, with a stop in Lichfield for supplies and ending up on Cannock Chase. Went round every shop in town looking for a longwave radio to listen to the cricket but only Tesco had any radios and the only pocket sized ones had medium wave AM only. but I get five live now at least.
Also got a couple of books to read and some stamps, so I can continue to send dozens of postcards. Blimey if stamps aren't expensive these days!

So coming to the end of the Heart of England Way tomorrow, summing up thoughts? Well, stark contrast to the Cotswolds Way - lacking the long distance views and hill tops, but making up for it with tranquil canals and pastures.
The surprising thing though is that despite weaving between major cities, the route is overwhelmingly quiet and rural, barring a couple of motorway and railway crossings.
Also the route regularly passes pubs and village shops, a welcome relief during this heatwave.

Next stage is along the Trent / canal to Nottingham, if I don't get sidetracked too long in Burton on Trent!
